Working together makes science even more fun! We tried different strategies for making our pencils balance on craft sticks we had taped on tables. Once we mastered that cool "trick" we tried balancing pencils on other places. We found the secret is the letter "C." Several students even discovered their pencils stayed balanced even when they walked and danced! Let's hear it for science!
Pencils can be balanced on tables, fingers, shoulders, and even ears! Our "Balance & Motion" unit is more proof that...
SCIENCE IS FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
SCIENCE IS FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
Science Night, March 2016 |
Science Night was a fun event for everyone! The students in our class came up with their own idea to show how science and math can be used together to create something new. With a little help from volunteers, Mrs. Cross & Mrs. Kelly, along with Mrs. Conniff and Ms. Haywood, They used 44 rectangular prisms, several cylinders, cones, triangles, and rectangles to make a castle. They put their knowledge of balance and measurement (Quarter 1 & 2 science units) to stack the "bricks" they made so they wouldn't fall. They also found out that their castle had 264 faces, 352 vertices, and 528 edges (Quarter 3 math unit on geometry)!
